The revival of the city

It was 1798, when the city was besieged by French troops, forced to retreat to La Valletta following a local population uprising. But unfortunately for them, this domination lasted only two years.

To free Malta from the French, the British thought about it in 1800. Malta was liberated thanks to an impressive British naval fleet that prevented any kind of vital supply, such as water and food. This imposition, created many problems for the French troops, so much so that they were forced to leave the island of Malta. Thus giving the British the opportunity to take possession of it and make their domain felt for 164 years.

The British  domain brought to Valletta several changes, certainly the most tangible were the realization of new wider roads, construction of famous buildings and theaters.
